Illegal aliens who escaped ICE raid after Oakland mayor’s tip-off have been RE-arrested for new crimes

If you already believe in karma, this story will reaffirm your belief. If you don’t, this story might make you start believing.

Some weeks ago Libby Schaaf, the mayor of Oakland, passed along confidential information to her community that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were preparing to swoop in and arrest people in the country illegally.

The primary targets of the raid were illegal aliens who had criminal convictions already and were considered genuine threats to the American citizenry. ICE would later say that it had the names of more than 1,000 illegal alien suspects, more than half of whom were criminals.

That didn’t matter to Schaaf. A true believer in so-called “sanctuary city” policies — even to the detriment of her own citizens — Schaaf would later both defend her potentially illegal actions (the Justice Department is looking into the matter) and label ICE agents doing their jobs as “racists” (presumably that included any minority ICE agents involved in the operation).

But despite her best efforts to shield criminals from federal law enforcement officials, three of them have now been nabbed anyway — after committing new crimes, according to Fox News which quoted ICE officials.

One of the newly arrested was a Mexican national who was picked up for DUI — no potential for him to cause death or mayhem in that situation, huh Mayor Schaaf? Oh, by the way, the suspect has been deported three times and has prior convictions for false imprisonment, battery of a spouse and (wait for it) DUI.

Another was a Mexican national arrested for robbery and gun crimes; he had been released back into the community for a prior offense even though ICE had a filed a detainer request in November (that sanctuary city policy thing, don’t you know).

The third suspect was a Mexican national arrested for corporal injury of a spouse; he has been deported twice as well and had criminal convictions for a host of illegal activities including drug possession, hit-and-run, possessions of narcotics equipment and violation of parole.

These are the people who Schaaf — and Gov. Jerry Brown, and every other Democrat in state and federal office from California — are protecting. (Related: Illegal alien released by sanctuary city Portland goes on to rape woman; insane Left rejoices.)

You know who they aren’t protecting? Their own citizens, as well as American citizens from other states who are visiting California.

Fox News noted that Acting ICE Director Tom Homan, who has been super-critical of California officials for their flouting of federal immigration law (which endangers his agents), mentioned the three suspects during a roundtable discussion of sanctuary cities at the White House Tuesday.

He also voiced his displeasure at mixed messages he was hearing on the issue from politicians in sanctuary states and jurisdictions.

“We are told on one hand to focus efforts on criminals but those same folks who want to focus on criminals don’t let us into the county jails,” he said. “It just defies logic.”

For her part, Schaaf has been defiant. “I do not regret sharing this information,” she said last month. “It is Oakland’s legal right to be a sanctuary city and we have not broken any laws. We believe our community is safer when families stay together.”

Actually, that’s false. No city or state jurisdiction has the legal right to defy federal law. Federal courts have consistently ruled that federal law supersedes state law because of the Supremacy Clause, which is found in Article VI, Sect. 2 of the Constitution. It provides that “the Constitution, and the Laws of the United States…shall be the supreme Law of the Land.”

Pick up a law dictionary, Ms. Schaaf, before you prepare to obstruct justice and tip off your illegal immigrant community again. Oh, and you might want to get some legal counsel in the meantime. If Jeff Sessions gets his way, you’re going to need it.
